The remarkable distinction of the artists taking part in the creation of 'Artaserse' highlights Terradellas'reputation, with this opera, as one of the most outstanding composers of the Neapolitan school at that time. Without doubt there was a parallelism between the European political development, driven by the conflict of the Hapsburgs, and the musical evolution developed by the second Neapolitan school which is being established throughout the continent. Terradellas'music, with a captivating theatrical intelligence and clarity, illustrates exceptionally well this new trend of ideas.
